me from calling out for help. I felt the cool air of predawn L.A. as we
exited. The sounds of birds changed as he dumped me onto the bare metal
floor of his van. I began to struggle but he just laughed. My ankles
were cuffed, then he slid the side door closed. I'll never forget that
cold, resonant sound as it slammed.

The driver's door opened and slammed, then we were off. He squealed the
tires and drove like a maniac. The constant starts, stops, and turns as
he got out of the parking lot made it impossible to get up. I slid
about until he reached the main highway, then I wormed my way around so
my feet pointed forward and touched the metal wall. This was like a
Security van, with the driver and prisoner compartments isolated.

Even though I lied flat to stay stable, the driver had another stop to
make. I rolled hard as he turned and flew over a high curb. I
said "Ow!" and he banged his side of the wall with his fist. I knew to
keep quiet. After two more quick, crazy turns, he slammed on the brakes
and I slid helplessly to the front wall.

Where the hell was I? His door opened, the van's weight shifted, and
the door slammed again. Either it was unnaturally silent out there or
the van was soundproof. I caught my breath. I began to shiver from the
cold. I decided to curl up and lie there next to the front wall.

Five minutes passed. I could barely breathe through the bag and
couldn't see a thing. I flinched when the side door clicked and slid
open.

"In you go, Nancy.", the driver said.

Another person was dumped to the metal floor. The door closed and we
were soon on our way again. Girl and Nancy? Were we both his morning
pickups?

The other person rolled into me as the van made its first sharp turn.
He was naked too. Lightly built, like me. As the van straightened out
and sped up to freeway speed, he struggled to get away from touching
me. I could tell from his sounds that he had been gagged with a towel.
